The Curious Monkey and the Wedge A group of monkeys resided nearby in a sizable grove. Fruit plants bearing bananas, oranges, chikoos, and pomegranates were abundant in the grove. A juvenile, active monkey by the name of Makranda was present. He would scale the highest branches and leap from tree to tree all day, disobeying senior monkeys who cautioned him against the danger. One day, a party of people carrying axes descended upon the grove. The monkeys became alarmed when they started felling trees in one area of the forest. But it soon became apparent that the humans were only preparing a tiny portion of the land to erect a temple. After devouring the cucumbers together, they both made the decision to return every night to eat. As a result of the nourishing meals he was consuming, Udhata soon began to seem more healthier and stronger. Udhata insisted on singing one night after an especially excellent supper of cucumbers. The farmer's life, however, was forever altered when he came across a unique goose that always lay golden eggs. This miracle astounded the farmer, who immediately began selling the golden eggs in the local town. The farmer was able to make a sizable profit from the eggs due to their great demand. He erected a bigger house, made improvements to his farm, and purchased better food for his family and animals with the money. The farmer's thoughts, however, soon shifted to greed.
